V: The second generation

Tuesday, June 10, 2003

The Slashdot crew have just spotted a CNN article about a new three-hour TV movie 'V': The Second Generation.

I was reminiscing about the first two series, shown in the early eighties. I even picked up the book authored by A.C. Crispin (Based on the movie for television) a few months ago in a book sale. Hunting book sales for classic sci-fi novels is one of my "out doors" hobbies, and my Isaac Asimov, Arthur C Clarke and E. E. doc Smith collections can attest - countless hours of relaxing reading material.

I remember the first series of V very well - it was the highlight of my viewing week on South African television. It was on at nine o'clock so we video-taped it for watching when I got home from school the next day. Mike Donavan was my hero - almost as good as McGuyver.

If memory serves me right, Michael Ironside played a cool and scary rebel guy, and Robert Englund playing Willie the alien defector. I have the original mini-series in my keep-for-later shopping basket on Amazon, so when I do get nostalgic again - it'll be in the mail pronto.
