Intelligent Agents

One thing tends to lead to another, and for me it is no different. Sunday I participated in an interesting discussion about Content Management Systems; about how they disregard and abuse the HTML markup and fail to leverage up the usefulness of a structured markup. We swopped ideas and suggestions of how a CMS could help the author by removing the leg work of finding other related articles to link the new one to. It came as a surprise when another group participant had done precisely that a few years ago, creating a product that used a technique called Holistic Hypertext . From that discussion I presented a few other ideas I had for making use of structured markup -- Intelligent Agents -- and remarking what a pity it was that we couldn't restructure the tag-soup HTML currently out there in WWW-land. Again, the he mentioned his idea of Fuzzy Pointers for identifying HTML fragments.

A bit of research spanning the rest of Sunday convinced me that the building blocks that I felt were missing from my Intelligent Agent ideas were already made -- at various stages of maturity. So I'm left in a position where I could start building an Intelligent Agent -- time to do what I've been prophesising.
